Should I Use Bleach On My Cloth Diapers?
If you want to keep your cloth diapers nice and bright and fresh smelling, do not use bleach on them.  Bleach is one of the worst products you can use on a cloth diaper.  Grandma would always run for the bleach bottle when you had to get rid of germs in the house or to make sure those white sheets on the bed were extra bright and white.  That's great for grandma but it doesn't really work to well for baby's delicate bottom!  Babies skin is very sensitive.  Bleach can leave a footprint on the fabric of the diaper that chemically reacts with baby's urine.  What you get is the two chemical reacting to each other and letting off a smell that is like mustard gas.  It smells aweful!
So what do you do if your lovely diaper has a stain or two and needs a little brightening up?  You can was the diaper a few times in hot water (try it with vinegar on the first cycle.)  After the third wash, set the diapers out on the lawn to dry in the sun.  This will allow the grass and the sunshine to do their magic and naturally bleach out your diaper without the use of harsh chemicals!  What a wonderful way to wrap your precious baby in love!
