Leaking Cloth Diapers! Help!
Leaks happen when you have a poor fit on baby.  This is usually when you are trying to get a trim look and fit (like you get with disposable diapers) when you are really working with cloth diapers and they fit and look a little different.  Cloth diapers don't have gel packs in the soaker pad.  The gel packs are thin and trim but when baby starts to wet the diaper, the gel packs puff up and then start to break down.  Very nice!
For a good fit, you need to have the diaper fit snuggly around the legs, to keep blow-outs from happening.  You also need a snug fit on the leg to keep the moisture in and clothes from making contact with the interior of the diaper (which also causes wicking.)  The other important part of a good fit is a high rise on the diaper.  Boys need extra protection up front.  If the rise is too short they may not have enough coverage up in front to take care of their needs.  Girls need a high rise too, expecially for nights when they may be laying on their backs and need the extra protection on the back side.  Doublers will help if you are going out or if you need protection through the night.  You shouldn't be looking for a diaper to serve your nighttime needs if baby takes a bottle to bed.  If baby is taking a bottle to bed you will need a high rise, good leg protection, a stay dry interior, and a doubler to make it through the long hours.  If  you put all of those things into place, you will have a safe trip out and baby will wake up with a dry bed in the morning!  How wonderful!
